Meet our Physiotherapist Kate

Kate Walton – Chartered & HCPC State Registered Physiotherapist

Hello my name is Kate Walton and I am a Chartered and HCPC State Registered Physiotherapist with a keen interest in the Musculoskeletal and Sport specialisms of physiotherapy.  I started out as a mathematician, completing both a BSc and then a MSc, which I thoroughly enjoyed before moving over to do some research in Mechanical Engineering.

I am also a Track & Field Athlete. I started 18 years ago with just the javelin and sprints, but now I focus on Combined Events, covering hurdles, high jump, long jump, shot put, javelin, 200m, and 800m within my training.  I am still fairly new to Combined Events, having only competed in a handful of pentathlons and I am hoping to compete in my first heptathlon very soon!

The nature of being an athlete means I have suffered multiple injuries and I have experienced not being able to train or compete.  However, this allowed me to develop my skills in rehabilitating my own return to sport through exercise prescription programs and adapting my training with the help of my amazing coach and physio!  This motivated me to change my career to become a physio myself and I can transfer my knowledge and experience into my practice and help you achieve your goals.

I am also a qualified Athletics Coach with England Athletics and have been involved in coaching for 12+ years.  I currently lead two Combined Events groups, one with my local athletics club where I am also the Chair and one with an external group.  The groups provide opportunities for young athletes at different stages of their development pathway, along which I aim to help them improve their techniques, speed, and strength to achieve their athletic potential and prevent injury as best as possible.

As a teenager, I participated in many sports such as football, basketball, and badminton and completed sports coaching qualifications.  I also used to dance competitively during my early studies at university, so I have a good understanding of the demands of different sports and can implement sport specific exercises and drills into rehabilitation programs to target the relevant components of fitness for returning to function, returning to sport and/or enhancing sports performance.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me and my journey as a Physiotherapist.  I am excited to be a part of the growing A+ Sports Therapy team, where I have a clinic every Wednesday from 9am to 3pm and you can book in for a treatment with me now!
